It's not. Diablo is one of the most popular games of all time; It has one of the biggest fanbases; it's replayability is famous; it redefined the action RPG genre. But Diablo wasn't and won't be associated with the 'best rpg' tag at any point. Planescape:Torment and Baldurs Gate 2 are head and shoulders above diablo in the quality of roleplaying content. Even KotoR, NWN, Icewind Dale etc have more fulfilling roleplaying content.

And I still don't understand what it has to do with Guild Wars 2. It's like saying 'haha Fallout 3 will get destroyed'. What damn sense does it make. We don't know the release dates. Both are free to play, so people who like both WILL buy both.

I agree entirely. That's a genre issue though, not a game quality issue, and any game that can be considered on the level of Baldur's Gate (if not maybe higher, considering the ridiculous replay value and continual support of D2) is something that deserves attention.

Diablo is the kind of game where you can say 'ok, one more run then I'm going to bed' and then be extremely irritated when your boss calls asking why you're not at work because he's interrupting you while teleporting to Baal.

A game player has only so much time to spend, and Diablo simply rewarded time better - you could do a 5-minute Baal run or some quick quests, or spend hours exploring, messing around with characters, and doing runs or pking. Sure, it wasn't high art, but the simple complexity of Blizzard games is what makes them so amazing. I don't have any doubt people will buy both, but a large portion of the MMO crowd is, or was, a Diablo player, and is going to prefer spending their time with what they consider the reincarnation of their electronic girlfriend.

That's why Diablo 2 should be called Hack'n'Slash, not RPG. Because Diablo 2 is the best HnS, Planescape Torment or Baldurs Gate 1/2 are the best RPGs.

Same as why you don't compare trucks to porshes.

AND NO thats an opinion of yours, im sure id find ALOT more people who favor D2 or diablo OVER those sucky games, well NWN was awesome, but it was not as good as DIABLO

what makes Diablo II so good is the music, the ingame movies, the voice acting isnt crap, and I used to play it 12 hours a day!

Did you not read the post?

Those games are all superior in terms of roleplaying content. That, as I said, is a genre difference and not a quality difference - nobody can argue Diablo 2 wasn't really about roleplaying. This doesn't mean it was a bad game, because it didn't pretend to be about roleplaying, and excelled at what it was designed for.
